The Giraffe Language School

The Giraffe Language School

The Giraffe Language School is a fantasy story about Nonviolent Communication/Peace Language, intended for a dramatic reading experience between parent and child or teacher and students. At the centre of the story is Will, a first grader who experiences bullying because of his learning difficulties and an extraordinary island adventure that he sees in his dream. Will takes part in this adventure as an invisible observer and gets to explore the four steps of Peace Language: Observation, Feeling, Need, and Request. Will puts these steps into action and improves his internal and external communication skills, which assist him in overcoming the emotional challenges of his learning difficulty.LU

In raising a child, we are creating the future. The educational and cultural policies of a society shape future generations. This book offers a solid critique of education based on memorized dogmas and stereotypes. Not only is it relevant to children, but to everyone involved in raising the next generation. The author, Sezer Aksoy, presents something new but within a child-friendly fantastical and fairytale - like context. In a child’s rapidly developing mental and imaginary world, their inner journey towards developing a sense of democracy, respect for other’s differences, and confidence in expressing themselves, could not be captured more beautifully than in The Giraffe Language School.
